2014 IAR Legislative Scorecard
It was a busy spring session of the Illinois General Assembly and the Illinois Association of REALTORS® and our 41,000 members worked hard to stop bad policy, alter flawed legislation, advocate IAR initiatives and promote the interests of our membership, their clients and customers. The new 2014 Legislative Scorecard highlights 14 notable victories for REALTORS® and private property owners including these important wins:
- SB 3044 passed protecting the REALTOR®’s ability to provide BPOs/CMAs
- SB 2664 passed, limiting the amount of money a prospective buyer of a foreclosed condo would pay for past due costs and legal fees.
- The State Fire Marshal released a formal pledge to work with stakeholders (including REALTORS®) on any future fire sprinkler mandate initiatives.
- A REALTOR®-supported executive order created a NEW Division of Real Estate within IDFPR.
Call For Action on Condo Foreclosure Bill
Take action now on IAR’s Call For Action urging Gov. Pat Quinn to sign SB 2664, which changes the Condominium Property Act by limiting some of the money buyers of foreclosed condos face paying at closing. The bill is on the governor’s desk awaiting signature and your help is needed now. Take Action!

Murphysboro Habitat Home Dedicated and Turned Over to Homeowner
The completion of IAR’s first Habitat for Humanity build in Murphysboro was celebrated during a dedication ceremony last weekend. The new homeowner, Kristen Beck, and her four children have moved into their new home. Thanks to all the Illinois REALTORS® who volunteered their time and talents on the build. IAR Closed for Fourth of July
The Illinois Association of REALTORS® office in Springfield and the IAR Legal Hotline will be closed Friday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.
NAR: Pending Home Sales Surge in May
Low mortgage rates and higher housing inventory pushed pending home sales up around the country in May , according to NAR’s latest Pending Home Sales Index. U.S. pending home sales were up 6.1 percent compared to April and marked the largest month-over-month gain since April 2010, NAR said. Annually, pending sales are 5.2 percent below May 2013.

The leasing agent license renewal deadline is July 31, 2014. If you are a leasing agent, an important question you might be asking is how can you find out what continuing education hours you already have? Use the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Education Lookup to check your education credits for courses taken — and passed — through the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Licensing & Training Center. Scam Alert: Beware of Efforts to Divert Wire Transfers
REALTORS® should be on the lookout for scam artists trying to divert funds to be used in real estate transactions. Several Illinois real estate businesses are reporting “phishing” scams that can include seeking email and password information and then using that information to divert wire transfers.
