(Nov. 13, 2012) The Illinois Association of REALTORS® has committed to donate $25,000 to help those affected by Super Storm Sandy.

IAR's executive committee made the decision Nov. 11 at a meeting held during the annual REALTORS® Conference in Orlando, Fla. The association joins REALTOR® groups across the nation who have committed to raise $1.3 million so far to aid those in the Northeast. That number is expected to increase as other association boards sign off on donations.

"Illinois REALTORS® have close ties with colleagues in the Northeast who are dealing with everything from catastrophic storm surge damage to an ongoing loss of power," said IAR President Michael D. Oldenettel, CRS, GRI. "Whenever there's a disaster of this proportion, there's no doubt REALTORS® will lead the way to assist with recovery."

Other Illinois REALTOR® associations are making donations, too, including the Chicago Association of REALTORS® which donated a total of $25,000 to assist victims in New York and New Jersey.

IAR and other REALTOR® associations have a long history of helping with storm recovery. Associations have provided aid during Hurricane Katrina and, more recently, in the aftermath of a tornado that swept through the Southern Illinois town of Harrisburg.

REALTORS® can donate to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation, which is accepting donations to provide housing-related assistance to victims of the disaster. Make a donation today.
