Making a Difference in the 2012 Election

Illinois REALTORS® made a difference in the 2012 election and in targeted Opportunity Races around the state.

Here is a roundup of election results for the Illinois General Assembly races. Reminder: The State Board of Elections will not certify results for about a month so these results are "unofficial".  

 

ILLINOIS STATE SENATE

  • All 59 seats were up in the 2012 general election due to redistricting. Over the next 10-year period the upcoming elections will only have one-third of the Senate seats on the ballot.
  • There were 30 SAFE districts where the seat was UNCONTESTED. This represents 51 percent of the races.
  • Pre-election split:  35 Democrats/ 24 Republicans
    Post-election split  40 Democrats/ 19 Republicans 

The IAR RPAC Trustees conducted 10 Opportunity Races (extra grassroots efforts) in the Illinois State Senate. Seven of the 10 won (70% SUCCESS RATE).

ILLINOIS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

  • All 118 seats were up in the 2010 general election.
  • There were 70 SAFE districts where the seat was UNCONTESTED.  This represents 59 percent of the races.
  • Pre-election split:  64 Democrats / 54 Republicans
    Post-election split:  71 Democrats / 47 Republicans

The IAR RPAC Trustees conducted 8 Opportunity Races (extra grassroots efforts) in the Illinois House of Representatives. Six of the 8 won (75% SUCCESS RATE).
