Election 2012: Make Your Voice Heard
The general election is Nov. 6 and this year’s contest gives you a chance to make sure candidates elected to political office are the ones who understand and support private property rights.

  • REALTORS® Vote. In a recent IAR LinkedIn poll, 94 percent of those responding said they will be voting on Nov. 6. Commented Rita Liberatore: "Definitely going to vote! The REALTOR® voice is huge."
  • Absentee Voting Deadlines Coming Soon. If you are casting an absentee ballot in this year's general election, remember that local election officials must receive your absentee ballot application by mail by Nov. 1. You can vote absentee in person until Nov. 5. Early voting runs through Nov. 3. Find voter information here.

GAD Battles: IAR Fighting Against Burdensome Inspections
With more governments trying to use overly burdensome inspection ordinances to drive up fee revenues and regulations, IAR's local Government Affairs Directors (GADs) are fighting for you all over Illinois to block such efforts. Market Stats and Research

Pending Home Sales Rise Slightly in September
Pending home sales rose 0.3 percent in September compared to August, but were 14.5 percent higher than a year ago, according to NAR's latest Pending Home Sales Index.

Case-Shiller: Home Prices Continue to Rise
Nineteen of the 20 U.S. metro areas tracked by the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index saw monthly gains in August compared to July. Chicago was among those with monthly gains, but year-over-year saw a slight decline of 1.6 percent.

Remodeling Activity at 2005 Levels
More homeowners are remodeling and the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index has climbed to the highest point since the third quarter of 2005. Read the NAHB release.

IAR and Inland Real Estate Welcome Chinese Government Delegation
IAR representatives including President Michael D. Oldenettel and Inland Real Estate Corp. recently welcomed a visiting Chinese government delegation from Guangzhou to discuss Illinois commercial and residential real estate markets as well as land use and real estate practices in Illinois. Zillow Lists Pre-Sale Foreclosure Data
The online real estate database is now including information on homes that are in foreclosure but have not yet been put on the market for sale, the Chicago Tribune reports

New Fannie/Freddie Short Sales Guidelines Effective Nov. 1
Guidelines aimed at streamlining short sales on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages go into effect Thursday. One change to note: homeowners with eligible hardships will be able to sell in a short sale even if they are current on their mortgage. Download this release (pdf) for more details.
