Danville holds a special place in the Illinois Association of REALTORS®’ history for in May 1916 Danville, along with four other local boards of REALTORS®, banded together as the Real Estate Association of Illinois. Their objective was clear: “to unite brokers, agents, and owners for the purpose of formulating, promoting and enforcing high standards of ethics with relation to transactions in real estate”.
Colonel William C. Johnson from Danville was the first president of the state association and served in that position for four years. Danville has provided IAR with many volunteer leaders over the past 100 years including a state president again in 1945, A.J. Mielke.
The Quad Cities played a notable role in the history of the REALTOR® organization by uniting associations and members for the purpose of protecting private property rights.
"The REALTORS® from the states of Iowa and Illinois have always had a common bond and have truly defined the principles of cooperation and association whether they are separate associations or one common association," said Michael D. Oldenettel, CRS, GRI, President of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®.
