Recent news from the Illinois Association of REALTORS'® (IAR) state and local lobbying efforts. IAR has more than a dozen lobbyists fighting on behalf of our members. The lobbying is handled by our State Capitol lobbyists, and through RVOICE, a cadre of lobbyists working with REALTORS® in their communities statewide.

How bills monitored by IAR fared on the spring session's final day - IAR closely tracked a number of bills during the spring session, including action on fast-track foreclosures, cleanup work on the Real Estate Licensure Act and homestead tax liens. See where these key bills stand.

Freeport Walks Away from Vacant Property Ordinance. REALTORS® were wary of the broad definition for vacant property and high fees. (5/29/12)

Program helps members understand Cook County assessment process. Let's face it: The assessment process can be complicated. A new program helps break down the changes, and could help save money, too. (5/22/12)

No sign fees for REALTORS® in Steger. Will County village listens to RVOICE arguments, local real estate professionals and amends ordinance. (4/03/2012)

Chatham approves zoning change favorable to REALTORS®. Board signs off on key classification change that potentially could help with financing.  (4/05/12)

DuPage, Cook REALTORS® fight for property rights. The Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® Government Affairs program in the Cook and DuPage suburbs has several high profile issues at hand. (3/13/2012)

Home referenda on March ballots. With the March 20 primary election fast approaching, it is time again to pay attention to the candidate races and the issues that affect the real estate industry. (3/05/2012)

DuPage, Cook REALTORS® fight for property rights. IAR is working with Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® on home rule ballot measures in two communities; providing testimony in Des Plaines. (3/13/2012)

IAR honored for RVOICE newsletter. IAR earned the award for its work educating the state’s elected officials with a newsletter, On Common Ground in Illinois. (3/19/2012)

Home rule measures defeated in five state communities. Efforts by IAR targeted municipalities seeking broader powers that could hurt property owners. (3/21/2012)

Bloomington supports Forging Ahead initiative to grow jobs. Funding through RVOICE will help grow opportunity in central Illinois. REALTORS® are among many business groups joinging the push. (3/22/2012)

Successes abound in March 20 primaries. The Illinois REALTORS® Political Action Committee funded several "Opportunity Race" activities this election, reaching out to registered REALTORS® in support of targeted candidates in both state and local races. (3/29/12)

DeKalb housing task force weighs landlords' concerns. A task force is reviewing a draft ordinance that could force rental property owners to register and pay as much as a $75 annual fee. (2/29/2012)

Rental Registration targeted. The Illinois Association of REALTORS® backed landlords in Belvidere who oppose a proposal which would force registration for rental property. (2/28/2012) 

Fight against blacklisting. The North Shore Barrington Association of REALTORS® has filed a report with Evanston officials accusing the city of blacklisting properties around Northwestern University. (2/24/2012)
