Matt Difanis of Mahomet Installed as Treasurer
of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®
REALTOR® Matt Difanis, ABR, of Mahomet has been installed as the 2016 Treasurer of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. He is a co-owner of RE/MAX Realty Associates in Champaign.
Difanis began his real estate career in 1998 while still an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois. Working full-time while attending the University of Illinois College of Law, Difanis was featured in REALTOR® Magazine’s 2004 Class of “30 Under 30” as a real estate rising star. After earning his Juris Doctor degree later that year, he chose to remain in the real estate industry and has been actively involved in the REALTOR® organization. He also has earned the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) professional designation.
Difanis was the 2012 president of the Champaign County Association of REALTORS® and was chosen as his local association’s REALTOR® of the Year in 2013. In 2015, he was the fundraising chair for the Champaign association’s REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC). On the national level, he has served on the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Business Issues Policy Committee and currently is a member of the Social Media Advisory Board.
Difanis is an active member and leader within the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR). He has served on the IAR Board of Directors and chaired the IAR Governance Task Force and the Public Policy & Government Affairs Member Involvement Group. He has lent his expertise to many IAR committees and has been a member of the IAR Professional Standards Committee and the Illinois Young Professionals Network (YPN) since 2011.
In 2016, he will chair the IAR Finance Committee, serve as vice-chair of the IAR Strategic Planning Committee and will be a member of the IAR Executive Committee, among others.
Difanis has been committed to enhancing professional standards within the industry. He is an ombudsman in IAR’s Ombudsman Program and has chaired ethics, arbitration and appeals hearings throughout the state. He also is a strong supporter of REALTOR® political advocacy efforts and is a Golden “R” Major Investor in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and a member of NAR’s President’s Circle.
Active in his local community, Difanis is a long-time volunteer with the Mahomet Area Youth Club and is serving his third year on the board of directors and his second term as board president. From 2010 to 2013, he donated his time and talents as the volunteer photographer for Central Illinois Honor Flights, a chapter of the national network that provides veterans with free trips to see the war memorials in Washington, D.C. During his 12 trips, Difanis traveled with more than 700 World War II veterans and captured more than 30,000 images. He has also volunteered as a photographer and sound board operator at his church, Windsor Road Christian Church. Difanis was recently named Central Illinois Business Magazine’s "Forty Under 40" Man of the Year. He and his wife, Angelle, live in Mahomet and are the parents of two grade school aged children.
Installation ceremonies were conducted at the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Inaugural Gala on Oct. 6 at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort in Oak Brook, Illinois. Other 2016 officers installed were President Mike Drews, GRI, Broker-Associate with Charles B. Doss & Co. in Aurora, and President-elect Doug Carpenter, ABR, AHWD, SFR, Managing Broker of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell in Orland Hills.
The Illinois Association of REALTORS® is a voluntary trade association whose 44,000 members are engaged in all facets of the real estate industry. In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation which safeguards and advances the interest of real property ownership.
