Matt Difanis Installed as President-Elect of Illinois REALTORS®

REALTOR® Matt Difanis, ABR, GRI, of Mahomet has been installed as the 2017 President-elect of Illinois REALTORS®. He is a co-owner of RE/MAX Realty Associates, with offices in Champaign, Mahomet and Monticello. 

Difanis began his real estate career in 1998 while still an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois. Working full-time while attending the University of Illinois College of Law, Difanis was featured in REALTOR® Magazine’s 2004 Class of “30 Under 30” as a real estate rising star. After earning his Juris Doctor degree later that year, he chose to remain in the real estate industry and has been actively involved in the REALTOR® organization. He also has earned the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) and Graduate, REALTORS® Institute (GRI) professional designations.

Difanis was the 2012 president of the Champaign County Association of REALTORS® and was chosen as his local association’s REALTOR® of the Year in 2013. On the national level, he has served on the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Social Media Advisory Board and is currently a member of the Business Issues Policy Committee and the NAR Board of Directors.

Difanis is an active member and leader within the Illinois REALTORS®. He has served on the Illinois REALTORS®’ Board of Directors and chaired the Finance Committee, Digital Messaging & Communications Task Force, Public Policy & Government Affairs Member Involvement Group and the Governance Task Force. He has lent his expertise to many committees including the association’s Professional Standards, Strategic Planning and Executive committees.  He has been a member of the Illinois Young Professionals Network (YPN) since 2011.

In 2017, he will chair the Illinois REALTORS®’ Strategic Planning Committee, NAR Involvement Subcommittee and serve as vice-chair of the association’s Strategic Thinkers Working Group and the Executive Committee.

Difanis has been committed to enhancing professional standards within the industry. He is an ombudsman with Illinois REALTORS®’ Ombudsman Program and has chaired ethics, arbitration and appeals hearings throughout the state. He also is a strong supporter of REALTOR® political advocacy efforts and is a Golden “R” Major Investor in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and a member of NAR’s President’s Circle. 

Active in his local community, Difanis is a longtime volunteer and board member of the Mahomet Area Youth Club and is currently serving on the executive committee as immediate past president of the board. From 2010 to 2013, he donated his time and talents as the volunteer photographer for Central Illinois Honor Flights, a chapter of the national network that provides veterans with free trips to see the war memorials in Washington, D.C. During his 12 trips, Difanis traveled with more than 700 World War II veterans and captured more than 30,000 images. He has also volunteered as a photographer and sound board operator at his church, Windsor Road Christian Church. In 2015, Difanis was named Central Illinois Business Magazine’s “Forty Under 40” Man of the Year. He and his wife, Angelle, live in Mahomet and are the parents of two children.

Installation ceremonies were conducted at the Illinois REALTORS® Inaugural Gala on Oct. 6 at the Chicago Marriott Naperville in Naperville, Ill. Other 2017 officers installed were President Doug Carpenter, ABR, AHWD, GRI, SFR, managing broker of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell in Orland Hills, and Treasurer Dan Wagner, senior vice president for government relations at the Oak Brook-based Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc.

Illinois REALTORS® is a voluntary trade association whose more than 44,000 members are engaged in all facets of the real estate industry.  In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, Illinois REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation which safeguards and advances the interest of real property ownership.
