Doug Carpenter of Mokena Installed as President-Elect
of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®

REALTOR® Doug Carpenter, ABR, AHWD, SFR, of Mokena has been installed as the 2016 President-elect of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. He is Managing Broker of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell in Orland Hills. 

Active in the real estate industry since 1985, Carpenter has been involved in all levels of the REALTOR® organization. He served two-terms as president of the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® and was chief executive officer for the Three Rivers Association for two years.

On the state level, he has been an active member and leader within the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) including serving as chair of the IAR Professional Standards Committee, Finance Committee and Business Issues Rules Task Force. He has been instrumentally involved in government affairs and advocacy issues, chairing the REALTORS® Political Action Committee Trustees, the IAR Political Fundraising Working Group and the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Major Donor Working Group.

Carpenter was the recipient of the IAR Distinguished Service Award in 2009. The award honors individuals who have provided outstanding contributions and service to IAR and the local community. In 2016, he will chair IAR’s Strategic Planning Committee, NAR Involvement Subcommittee and will be a member of the IAR Executive Committee.

He is licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as a real estate continuing education instructor and for many years lent his time and talents to the Real Estate Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois. Carpenter served as president of the foundation in 2009 and 2010.  He has earned the professional Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) designation and the At Home With Diversity (AHWD) and Short Sales & Foreclosure Resource (SFR) certifications.

On the national level, Carpenter has been involved with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) as a long-time member of the NAR Board of Directors and also currently serves as a member of the Business Issues Policy Committee and the Membership Policy and Board Jurisdiction Committee. He is among an elite group of REALTOR® Association members nationwide whose monetary contributions have earned them a spot on the RPAC Hall of Fame in NAR’s Washington, D.C., offices and was the first REALTOR® from Illinois to earn such an honor.

Carpenter is a native of Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Harlem High School. In his local community, Carpenter raises money for the American Cancer Society and is active in his church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn, serving as senior organist.

Installation ceremonies were conducted at the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Inaugural Gala on Oct. 6 at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort in Oak Brook, Illinois. Other 2016 officers installed were President Mike Drews, Broker-Associate with Charles B. Doss & Co. in Aurora, and Treasurer Matt Difanis, ABR, a co-owner of RE/MAX Realty Associates in Champaign.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® is a voluntary trade association whose 44,000 members are engaged in all facets of the real estate industry.  In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation which safeguards and advances the interest of real property ownership.
