New Flood Insurance Rates Released from FEMA

Last year's federal flood insurance reform means changes to how insurance rates will be calculated. NAR has the details and links to the new guidelines from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Tighter Rules Ahead for Reverse Mortgages

Beginning Sept. 30, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) will put more restrictions on reverse mortgages, including how much money homeowners can take out in the first year, The New York Times reports. Also read a news release from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). 

Deadline for IDHA's Hardest Hit Program is Sept. 30

Be sure to share this with any clients who may need help staying in their home. Sept. 30 is the last day Illinois homeowners can apply for Illinois' Hardest Hit Program, a program providing temporary financial assistance to qualifying distressed homeowners to help them keep their homes. Learn more from theIllinois Housing Development Authority.

Illinois Among Top States With Homeownership Declines

Homeownership in Illinois dropped 7.2 percent between 2004 and the second quarter of 2013, according to a report from NAR research. Nevada and Georgia led the declines.

NAR September Safety Tip for the Week

REEF Scholarship Deadline is Oct. 1

Applications for the Rich Port, Past Presidents and Roxane Malo scholarships must be submitted by Oct. 1, 2013. The Rich Port and Past Presidents scholarships are for agents pursuing their Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) or Certified Residential Broker (CRB) designations. The Malo scholarship is for the continuation and expansion of leadership skills in a real estate field. Since 2000, the Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF) has awarded scholarships totaling over $375,800. Learn more at www.ilreef.org.

2014 Broker License Renewal

By April 30, 2014, Illinois Broker licensees must have completed the CE requirements and applied to renew their license through IDFPR. What's required? That depends on how and when you received your Illinois broker license. IAR's Licensing & Training Center has created a Q&A and checklist to help you get ready. 

"Let's Talk Real Estate" Events Continue in October

IAR's popular "Let's Talk Real Estate with Members of Congress" events continue in October with a new lineup of U.S. Representatives including: Cheri Bustos (D-IL) 17th District; Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) 9th District; Mike Quigley (D-IL) 5th District; and Brad Schneider (D-IL) 10th District. Check the IAR website for event details and stay tuned for upcoming registration information and additional meetings.
