Tips for improving your fuel economy from Edmunds.com. Edmunds.com has 10 tips for saving gas that are worth a read by REALTORS who spend a lot of time in the car. Tip #9 explains that driving with windows rolled down can be less efficient than running the air conditioner due to the increased drag on the car. Edmunds suggests leaving windows open when driving slowly around town; roll windows up for highway driving and turn on the air conditioning.

Illinois legislature breaks until fall veto session. IAR lobbyists report in Quorum Call on state budget deliberations and no action on fund sweeps last week at the State Capitol. The legislature is not scheduled to be back in session until November 12, 2008.

Forget-me-nots. How do you make sure your clients don’t forget you after the sale? Read an online exclusive from Illinois REALTOR Magazine for ideas shared by Illinois REALTORS. Says REALTOR Ramelia Williams of www.RookieAgentBootCamp.com: “Consistency is key if you want to be remembered by someone. Create a 12-touch marketing plan for reaching past clients throughout the year. Make it a combination of face-to-face, voice-to-voice, e-mail and postal mail communication.”

Remodeling activity slows. According to the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, the weak economy and further distress in housing markets are impeding remodeling activity. The Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) reports that homeowner improvement activity will continue to decline, falling by an annual rate of 11.1 percent by the first quarter of 2009.
Foreclosure data sources. IAR Communications receives many calls requesting foreclosure statistics, which we do not track. The IAR Market Stats program reports Illinois single-family and condo home sales and median prices. We also provide member REALTORS with talking points on foreclosure and our consumer site www.YourIllinoisHome.com provides a resource "How to Prevent Foreclosure." Below are two sources for foreclosure data.
Commercial real estate vacancies are trending up modestly, while investment has dropped sharply in the wake of the credit crunch, according to the latest NAR Commercial Real Estate Outlook. NAR economist Lawrence Yun said: “Slow economic growth is lowering demand for commercial space, mostly in the office and industrial sectors. Despite the slowdown, the commercial real estate market is in much better shape compared to conditions during the 2001 recession.”
